The Scotus Counseling Department seeks to serve every student on the journey to discovering his/her vocation. Our college and career readiness program equips students in maximizing his/her skills and talents and guides students in identify careers that fit his/her interests. We partner with parents, educators, local parishes, and community members to prepare students to reach their full potential.

AP/Dual Credit Classes

Scotus students have the opportunity to take college credit courses. In doing so, students set themselves up to get a head start on their careers, spend less time in college, free up extra time during their college careers, etc.

Scotus offers college credit within the Sciences, Mathematics, and English.

Career Job Shadowing and Internship Opportunities

Scotus partners with a many community and state members. Reach out to Mrs. McPhillips with your interests and she can place you with an appropriate job shadowing and/or internship opportunity.

Career Exploration

Career strength and interest tests can be administered to obtain a better knowledge of a student’s skill set. Contact Mrs. McPhillips to set those up. Individualized career counseling can also be set up.

Volunteer/Leadership Opportunities

  • Youth Leadership Columbus (YLC) is an interactive high school leadership development program created to recognize, educate, and empower future leaders who are dedicated to improving the quality of life in the Columbus area.” YLC applications are for to-be juniors and seniors and are due in March.
  • Columbus Community Hospital’s VolunTEEN program is a program that “will provide hands-on service as an extension of the health care team while you develop new skills and make new friendships.” This program is eligible for all high school students. Check out the program’s application, requirements, and opportunities.
  • Nebraska Hispanic Latino Youth Summit “gives high school students the opportunity to hear from a variety of speakers who have overcome adversity to accomplish great things in their lives.” Learn more information from the website about different opportunities.
